TCP Statement of Response to the Crisis in Ukraine

We are devastated by the humanitarian crisis resulting from Russia’s attack on Ukraine. It is during times like this that we must reinvigorate our commitment to addressing social and cultural issues, examining belief systems and coming together as a global community. It is our mission to carry this commitment out through our programming and initiatives, but we also invite you to show your support by donating to charities working to help Ukrainian refugees seeking shelter amid this invasion. While there are many, we share a few below:

The Future of Cultural Diplomacy

We are excited to share that the Soft Power & Cultural Diplomacy study group returns this Spring with new sessions and guest speakers! This coming Friday on March 4th, we will have our third session, ‘Cultural Preservation in the 21st Century’ featuring as our guest speaker, Irina Bokova (Professor Sciences Po, former Director-General UNESCO). These study sessions are OPEN AND FREE TO ALL- we hope you join us!

Cultural Diplomacy and Early Education: A Conversation with Sherrie Westin, President of Sesame Street

March 24th, 2022 | 12:00pm EST

For over fifty years, Sesame Street has proven itself capable of adapting to different cultures and celebrating diversity. In fact, Sesame Street has become the longest street in the world—reaching and teaching children in 150 countries around the world.  This session will examine how Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit behind Sesame Street, uses the power of media and Muppets to bring proven, locally-tailored early education to millions of children around the world across languages and cultures, while addressing challenging topics like public health, HIV awareness, and the global refugee crisis. This session will also touch on the advocacy aims of Sesame Street, and the impact that their unique programming has had in the field of education.
